About Park Atlas

Park Atlas is an independent reference for the decision-stage facts of visiting the National Park System. It covers what entry costs, when gates and visitor centers are open, what is closed or restricted right now, and what there is to do once you arrive.

The core park data (fees, hours, alerts, campgrounds, activities) comes from the official National Park Service API and links back to the official park page. Live conditions come from other federal open-data services. Weather is from the National Weather Service, air quality from EPA AirNow, river flow and earthquakes from USGS, and tides from NOAA. Species lists come from the Park Service's NPSpecies database, recent wildlife sightings from iNaturalist, and reference facts like park acreage from Wikidata. The full source list and refresh schedule is on the methodology page. We do not editorialize about which park is "best"; we make the official facts easier to find, compare, and plan around.

Our cleaned aggregate datasets (fees, visitation, campgrounds, species counts) are published as CSV in a public repository: github.com/kirkwood-justin/park-atlas-data, dedicated to the public domain under CC0.
